120th anniversary of the Italian ‘La Transiberiana' (Sulmona-Isernia) railway line

On October 16 and 17, 2017, the 120th anniversary of the Sulmona-Isernia railway line, also known as the Italian "Trans Siberia" (La Transiberiana), was celebrated. The railway got this nickname because the railway runs through the Apennine Mountains and the weather conditions can sometimes be "Trans-Siberian". The Fondazione FS steam locomotive 940 041, which was specially designed for these types of railways through the Apennines and of which 53 were built between 1922 and 1924, was the centrepiece of the railway's anniversary celebration. In addition to journeys with this beautiful steam locomotive, journeys with historic diesel trainsets were also performed. In this 7-part series we see beautiful images of this anniversary in a beautiful landscape!
