Rigi

On two weekends in the winter of 2017 there was full steam on Mount Rigi. Locomotive H2 / 3 No.16 (SLM, built in 1923), one of two still existing gear steam locomotives of the Rigi railways, stepped up to the summit of the Queen of the mountains. Credits: Seb 95

While the valleys lie under a thick blanket of fog, the Rigi Railway rise from the clouds. The otherwise spectacular train ride up to the "Queen of the Mountains" is even more impressive. Furka & RHB

Scenes during the ride and when the train passes by show the travel experience on the Furka mountain route. All shots were taken during a day trip in the order of:

A day trip to the Furka Mountain Railway

The RhB (Rhaetische Bahn) network offers regular services with steam locomotives. In February 2014, G4 / 5 108 was en route between Landquart and Disentis. Lots of steam in the sun and snow in a beautiful landscape! Credits: Seb 95

Steam ride Surselva with the RHB

Gotthard

On May 21, 2016, SBB Historic organized a special ride on the Gotthard railway. The special train was pulled by an A3 / 5 705 steam locomotive and the C5 / 6 2978 "Elefant". The latter is the largest steam locomotive built for the SBB. The special train ran from Brugg to Bellinzona. The video shows the train between Brugg and Erstfeld and on the climb to Göschenen. Full steam on the Gotthard

For the 100th anniversary of the C 5/6 2978, SBB Historic organized an impressive special trip in which two of the famous Gotthard locomotives were used in double traction. On October 21, 2017, the journey went from Erstfeld to Bellinzona, with the B 3/4 1367 supporting the two "elephants" C 5/6 2978 and 2969 as a pushing locomotive on the steep Rampfen route. From Airolo the 3 steam locomotives then took over the train to Faido, where unfortunately the 2969 was damaged and was set aside.
The next day the special train from Bellinzona drove back to Erstfeld - now only with two steam locomotives - and because of the risk of forest fire an electric locomotive, a Re460, had to pull the train. This video mainly shows the outward journey via the Gotthard ramp to Airolo, the spiral tunnel system at Lavorgo sets the stage for the curiously pulled train on the return journey.
