The Big Boy 4014's First Run

In this 9-part series you see the largest still working steam locomotive in the world and that is of course the 'Big Boy' from the United States. The Union Pacific 4014 is a steam locomotive owned and operated by the Union Pacific (UP) as part of its heritage fleet.

This giant steam locomotive was built in 1941 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) at the Schenectady Locomotive Works. The 'Big Boy' went already out of service in 1959.

In 2013, UP re-acquired and restored the locomotive in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 2019, the Big Boy finally drove independently for the first time.

You can now see the footage of those first journeys here in this series, in which you can enjoy this largest steam locomotive in the world!
