The ex-German steam locomotive BR 01 202 in Switzerland

The express steam locomotive 01 202 was built in 1936 by the Henschel & Sohn company in Kassel, Germany. After having driven approximately 3.8 million kilometers, it was taken out of service by the German Federal Railroad on January 3, 1975.

It was subsequently purchased by a private individual for the “price of scrap iron”. The locomotive was renovated over a period of 18 years and was acquired by the Swiss association Pacific 01 202. This locomotive type has a 2' C 1' axle arrangement, hence the name Pacific, after the American example.

The foundation regularly organizes steam rides with this beautiful steam locomotive. In this two-part series, the locomotive was filmed during various steam journeys made in 2021.
