East German Narrow Gauge Lines

This 3 part film looks at 3 former East German narrow gauge lines; the Fichtelbergbahn (Carnzahl-Oberwiesenthal), the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (Wernigerode-Brocken section) and the Preßnitztalbahn (Jöhstadt-Steinbach). The first 2 survived until unification and were then privatised. The latter closed before unification and has been reopened (in part) as a preserved railway.

In this 3 part film you can see 2-10-2T (two classes, two gauges), 0-4-4-0T Mallets and 0-4-4-0T Saxon Meyers in action. The Preßnitztalbahn section includes a special event with 3 Saxon Meyers in use on passenger and demonstration freight trains.

Two narrow gauge railway lines were built with a gauge of 750 mm, the railway tracks of the Harz Railway Line were laid in a gauge of 1000 mm gauge. Enjoy the East German narrow gauge steam trains in this film which can be exclusively seen here are 24Trains.tv!
