The Ge 4/4 II locomotive of the Rhaetian Railway

The GE 4/4 II locomotives were developed and built in the ‘70s by Swiss Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik (SLM) and Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) for the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). The first series was delivered in 1973, the second in 1985. They became iconic locomotives for the RhB, pulling RhB freight and passenger trains with a maximum speed of 90 kilometres per hour.

End of 2023, after 50 years of service, the first 5 locomotives were taken out of service. The locomotive is loved by many RhB fans and therefor they are the main subject in this three-part series. Enjoy the beautiful footage of these locomotives, who perform the heavy work for the RhB in the Swiss Alpine landscape!
