One more time on the Gotthard Railway

In 2016 the 52-kilometre-long Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland was opened. The opening meant that almost all train traffic, both freight and express trains, would go through the new tunnel and it would become very quiet on the old line over the mountain.

The aim for the Switzerland Railway Group Association from the Netherlands was to film all train traffic on the old Gotthard Railway.

In the summer of 2013, 2 days on the north side and 2 days on the south side, they followed all types of trains with 6 cameras so that a train was filmed in successive places. They communicated with each other via walkie-talkies so that the next camera was warned that a train was approaching.

The results are beautiful footage of the landscape with various types of trains with of course as highlights: the turning loops around Wassen on the north side, and at Biaschina on the south side.
