In 2021 and 2022, Swietelsky doubled the tracks between Heerlen and Landgraaf in South Limburg (the Netherlands) on behalf of ProRail, the infrastructure manager. This track doubling is part of a series of measures to improve passenger transport between Germany and the Netherlands by increasing the capacity of the track. In this first part about the track doubling between Heerlen and Landgraaf, we first take a ride on the relevant section of track, exactly one month before the decommissioning. Then we follow the work closely and see track builder Swietelsky in action with his equipment.

Part 1: The beginning

In this second part about the track doubling between Heerlen and Landgraaf, we see the Rus 1000 S in action. This machine was used in the Netherlands for the first time. Part 2: The ‘Rus 1000 S’ in action

In this last part, we see the final work, including testing the new switches with the Jules from Eurailscout, this is the first train to run on the new track to test the ATB (Dutch gtrain safety system).
