Dresden, the capital of the German state Saxony, is always worth a trip, and preferably by train, because no less than 5 main routes meet in the city on the Elbe. Episode 1-4

The first part of this series begins with the railway lines from Berlin and Leipzig, which cross each other in Coswig and lead to the main station, one via Dresden-Friedrichstadt, the other via Dresden-Neustadt. The renovation of the factory and the building was already in full swing, but the typical DR flair could still be found. This has since disappeared, as have some of the series shown in the film. In Dresden there was a colorful mix of ex DR and DB series, as well as the latest vehicle generations and the cross-border vehicles of the ČD. Credits: Seb 95

Part 1: from Coswig to Dresden HBF

The second part of this series is about railway through Elbe valley. The journey goes from Friedrichstadt via the main station and Dresden-Reick up the Elbe. In Obervogelgesang, Rathen and Königstein, the trains can be seen in the unique landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. In Bad Schandau we make a short detour towards Sebnitz and then continue towards Decin and Usti nad Labem in the Czech Republic. In addition to the standard series BR180/372 in various paint variants, the series 232, 219 and 202 are making their appearance. Credits: Seb 95

Part 2: in the Elbe River Valley

In the third part of the series we drive from the central station towards Freital and Tharandter Rampe. Until June 2001, BR234s were still in IR traffic on this route until the short delivery of the ICE TD met. It was also the time of the BR 156's last runs at DB Cargo. The four locomotives were mostly used for freight trains to Freiberg and Zwickau. In this part it is now also steaming, because we drive through Freital-Hainsberg, the starting point of the Weisseritztalbahn. Until the end of 2002, the connecting track to the wagon workshop in Potschappel was still located between Freital-Potschappel and Freital-Hainsberg. The narrow gauge or three-track track disappeared with the reconstruction of the rail systems after the flood in 2002. Part 3: in the direction Tharandt

In the fourth and final part of the series "Railway in Dresden" we see the route towards Klotzsche, Radeberg and Arnsdorf with the InterRegios to and from Wroclaw (Poland). Behind the "Ludmillas" both DB and PKP (Polish State Railways) wagons are used. The branch to Königsbrück branches off in Klotzsche. Here the colored loner 234 304 stands in front of the RBs. Then it goes to the mineral oil trains to Nossen. The branch to the Rhäsa tank farm splits off here. The loading direction of these trains is uphill, which is why there are usually two locomotives running. The KEG "shrimp cutters" were used here until the bankruptcy in 2004. The two ImoTrans V200s, which are present at the cement train to Deutschebora in Nossen, are also of Polish origin. Then we travel to the Müglitztalbahn Heidenau-Altenberg. In 2000 the DR V100s were still on their way to the Ore Mountains. Branch line atmosphere with short car trains, shape signals and telegraph line. With the exit of a 234 from the Neustadt train station, the series now comes to an end. Credits: Seb 95
