The iconic Swiss Crocodiles Ce 6/8 II and III

The Swiss Crocodile is perhaps one of the most iconic locomotives in the world. The shape of this electric locomotive immediately earned its nickname 'Crocodile'.

The production of this electric locomotive started in 1917 in Switzerland and was classified as series 6/8 II, after a test series of 4 locomotives that was classified as series I. Later a third series was built with improvements, which was classified as Ce 6/8 III. They were built by the Swiss Locomotive and Machine Factory (SLM) and 'Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon'.

The locomotive was designed for the steep railway lines of the Gotthard railway. After the Crocodile went out of service in 1986, some examples were preserved and are still working, as filmed for this two-part series. Nice to see these beautiful Crocodiles driving!
