The Monticello Railway Museum

The Monticello Railway Museum is home to some of the best-preserved railroading in the central United States. This program looks at operations at the museum, featuring a steam locomotive and three vintage diesels in action.

This film was shot over three weekends in 2012, focusing on Railroad Days in September. Railroad Days is an annual highlight at the museum, as multiple trains are in operation.

Featured locomotives are the Southern Railway 2-8-0 number 401, the Wabash F7 number 1189, Milwaukee Road NW2 number 1649, and Illinois Central GP11 number 8733.

We ride aboard every locomotive, with cameras mounted in various locations. In addition to on board sequences, we see plenty of action at trackside as four trains are in operation.

Information about the locomotives and the locomotive models are given, and there is a look back at operations at the museum from a quarter-century ago.
