Portrait of the Austrian locomotive Class 1018

This film contains a portrait of the Austrian class 1018 locomotive. These locomotives were built in 1939 by the Wiener Lokomotivenfabrik AG in Floridsdorf in Austria. It was the fastest locomotive of the Austrian Railways ÖBB until the class 1042 entered service in 1963. The maximum speed was 130 kilometres per hour, but some had a higher speed. The locomotive was in service with the ÖBB until the 1990s.

The class 1018 was actually the Austrian variant of the German E18 locomotives supplied in Germany by AEG and Krupp. The footages in this film were made from 1988 to 1999 in various places in Austria, such as: Attnang-Puchheim, Salzburg and Ennstal. This film was originally sold as a DVD, but it can now be seen here at 24Trains.tv!
