Rail Away 19: City Trips - Innsbruck, Austria (Dutch)

Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and offers the visitor a number of special destinations that can be reached from the city via the rails. Reason enough for Rail Away Citytrips to visit this city. On our first journey we travel with tram 6 from the outskirts of the city to the higher situated village of Igls. The tram 'meanders' along the mountain slopes to finally arrive in Igls. Afterwards we take a STB tram that starts at Innsbruck Central Station and takes travellers through the city along the mountain slopes towards the Brenner Pass. At the Stubai valley the tram goes to the village of Fulpmes where you can take a bus to the famous Stubai glaciers. The Hungerburg Railway is a funicular railway that starts underground in the centre of Innsbruck and leads steeply up to the village of Hungerburg on the north side of the city. On the way we pass the famous 'Alpenzoo'. When you arrive in Hungerburg, you can take the cable car to the so-called 'Nordkette', a mountain range that offers many hikers and mountain bikers a beautiful view of the city of Innsbruck.
