Rail Away 22: Italy - Bolzano - Mals (Dutch)

It is autumn in South Tyrol in Northern Italy, where the Mediterranean Italian atmosphere is combined with German thoroughness. From Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, the train goes upstream along the Adige river (Etsch in German) into the mountains. Here we become acquainted with a typical South Tyrolean autumn tradition: törggelen. The valley to Merano is home to beautiful vineyards where the grape harvest is in full swing in autumn. In Merano we change for train to Mals. The route winds west through the lovely Valle de Venosta (Vinschgau Tal), known for its many apple orchards. As the train approaches its destination in Mals, it becomes clear that winter is approaching: the snow has covered the peaks of the beautiful mountain massif at Mals with a white layer.

This version is Dutch spoken.
