The Indian Pacific - A Retrospective

The Indian Pacific is Australia's only transcontinental passenger rail service, operating once weekly in each direction between Sydney and Perth via Adelaide. The entire trip covers a distance of 4,352 km, which takes approximately 72 hours. The Indian Pacific first ran in 1970, when it was publicly owned and offered service with both sitting and sleeping accommodation. Nowadays, the train is privately owned and operates as an all inclusive deluxe "rail cruise” with both Gold and Platinum sleeping accommodation.
