Two elephants (C5/6 steam locomotives) in action at the Gotthard Railway

On October 21, 2017, two steam locomotives of the C5/6 series, nicknamed Elephant, came into action on the Swiss Gotthard Railway. Eurovapor's C5/6 2969 and SBB Historic's C5/6 2978 ran in double traction from Erstfeld to Bellinzona. These beautiful steam locomotives with a wonderful sound were built between 1913 and 1917 by SLM Winterthur in Switzerland. They got the nickname 'Elephant' because they were extremely suitable for the steep Gotthard Railway and they were very efficient steam locomotives. Fortunately, a hundred years later, we can still enjoy these beautiful machines!
