Steam and Tulips
On April 23, 2023, the Dutch Stoomgenootschap (Steam Society), partner of 24Trains.tv, organized the ‘Bossche Bollen’ Express. This ride with a steam locomotive of the SSN, the Stoom Stichting Nederland (Dutch Steam association), went from Den Bosch to Haarlem and back. The day before, the SSN was already busy heating up the steam locomotive for the ride the next day.
24Trains.tv was allowed to join and made a nice film of the heating up and of course the ride itself. The heating up took place at the home base of the SSN, the depot in Rotterdam.
The locomotive that was going to pull the Bossche Bollen Express was the 01.1075 that was built in 1940 in Berlin. It is a three-cylinder locomotive, 55 of which were built by Schwartzkopff in Berlin.
The journey from Den Bosch went via Tilburg and Rotterdam and after passing the beautiful and colourful tulips fields the destination Haarlem was reached. The return journey went via the little-used connecting curve at Rotterdam West and Utrecht. It was a beautiful day and you can now see the exclusive report here!
