Winter steam with British steam locomotive 8f 48305

The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Stanier Class 8F is a class of steam locomotives designed for hauling heavy freight. 852 were built between 1935 and 1946.

The 8f with number 48305 was completed at the Crewe Works in of the LMS in November 1943 and was saved from being scrapped.

It is now part of the Great Central Railway, the UK's only double track, main line heritage railway. It’s the only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other – just as it was when steam ruled the rails.

In this video you can see the 8f 48305 in action! It was shot on a Timelines charter on the Great Central on 19th & 20th January 2023 in cold and clear winter weather. The 8F can be seen in action from sunrise to sunset with a windcutter train of 18 wagons and a brake van. It was filmed 6 locations on the Great Central Railway from Swithland Sidings to north of Quorn.
